Brooke Rakes, PhD(c), RN, RNC-NIC joins Medical Advisory Board

Hope for HIE's Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Board is pleased to announce Brooke Rakes, PhD(c), RN, RNC-NIC to an appointment on our Medical Advisory Board.

Brooke brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and expertise to our MAB and we look forward to her contributions to help us move forward our mission.

Brooke Rakes, PhD(c), RN, RNC-NIC is a Neurological Intensive Care Nursery- Advanced Clinician (NICN-AC), specializing in the care of newborns requiring advanced neurologic assessment and treatment at a large urban women's health medical center located in southern California. In May 2018, she advanced to a NICU Charge Nurse and collaborates with diverse stakeholders and resource staff, to solve complex problems and assure quality of care within the NICU. She received her BSN from Point Loma Nazarene University, 2013 and is a doctoral student in the University of San Diego (USD) Hahn School of Nursing & Health Science, BSN to PHD (Executive Nurse Leader specialty) program.

She completed the Master of Science in Nursing component and was conferred the MSN, August 2019. She is in the third year of the Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) program and achieved candidacy, May 2020. Brooke is the recipient of the 2020-2021 combined Nurses Education Funds (NEF) Barbara L. Tate and Evelyn J. Barclay Scholarships, Terrance & Barbara Caster Institute for Nursing Excellence Education Scholarship, Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation (ARCS) Scholar Award, USD PhD Research Scholar Award, and the USD Dean’s Graduate Merit Scholarship.

Over the past 7 years, she has led and participated in evidence-based practice, research projects, and numerous councils.
